You know how it's common practice to say - my first language is and you fill in the blank with your language of origin? I was born and raised in the US but English is not my first language. Emotions are.
I feel everything. All my big beautiful feelings and all the feelings of the collective around me. At first it was a real drag because I didn't understand how it worked. Now I deem it as an honor! More on that later...
Before the honor part, my emotions ruled my life. If I felt wronged, I let everyone around me know how I felt. I wasn't trying to be a jerk but my emotions were so big that if I didn't share, I would either drown in depression or in my booze.
I understand now that my emotions were not the problem. How I interpreted my emotions is where I got off track. My emotions were just messengers, notifying me there was more to "the story" than what I was experiencing first hand.
Emotions are energy in motion. They are literally how we feel our thoughts. Nine times out of ten, when we have a feeling it is a trigger to a bigger message. But we tend to take it at face value and react in kind.
For example. Someone betrays your trust. You are hurt and rightfully so. Feeding off this hurt, you react in retaliation. Blaming the other person's action for how you feel. When in reality, you are the only person that is responsible for how you feel. No one can make you feel anything, but a storyline can.
You've been betrayed before but you never dealt with it (ie: confronted the other person and/or worked on personal healing). Now that you have experienced it again, it is compounded.
This is the deal. The universe will keep giving you the same life experiences until you deal with the original source of the trauma. People are reflections of your inside dialogue. Instead of blaming another for the betrayal, ask yourself how you betrayed you.
Their behavior is about them - their beliefs, their past experiences, their triggers. It's not about you. Heck yes it feels personal as all get out but at the end of the day, nope. Not about you.
Here's how you let go of their behavior and focus on healing you: Your mind can only focus on one thing at a time. You can either focus on blaming someone else or you can focus on figuring out why you were triggered. It's as simple as a choice.
In no way am I asking you to tolerate bad behavior. I'm just asking you to see it from a different perspective so that you can focus on you - the only thing you have control over!
What you resist, will persist. So instead of fighting your feelings - that you deserve to feel by the way - replace your focus. Now that I understand the Language of Emotions, it is my honor, privilege and passion to share it with you!
